Description: The male is blood red all over the uppers; hence sangaris. The larger female has rich red-orange in the center of its wings, with rich dark margins splashed with white, especially on the forewing, and zigzags on the hindwing. There is much regional variation in the female. The butterfly frequents forest areas.
